In what was a dramatic end to the regular 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign, Polokwane City was eventually crowned league winners, earning the direct route to PSL football for next season.

Cape Town Spurs, who sat at the summit of the table going into their final match, only managed a 1-1 draw with the University of Pretoria at Athlone Stadium.

After conceding in the 77th minute, the Urban Warriors were made to work hard for a point, as Therlo Moosa levelled matters for his side in the 91st minute.

Casric Stars, who were likewise chasing automatic promotion to the PSL, could only manage a 2-2 draw with All Stars at the Tsakane Stadium.

In leapfrogging both Casric Stars and Cape Town Spurs, Polokwane City powered their way back to the PSL courtesy of a 4-0 win over Pretoria Callies.

With Rise and Shine confirmed as 2022/23 Motsepe Foundation Championship winners, the Urban Warriors and Casric Stars will make one last bid for top flight football by partaking in the upcoming PSL Promotion playoffs.
