Kaizer Chiefs are desperately looking for a coach and several candidates have been bandied around for the coaching job.

From Pitso Mosimane, Benni McCarthy, Manqoba Mngqithi, and Nasreddine Nabi – we explore these candidates linked with the Chiefs coaching job. At the present moment, Chiefs have interim coach Cavin Johnson and it’s no secret they are looking for an experienced coach and one who will hit the ground running.

Top Five Coaching Candidates For The Kaizer Chiefs Job

    PITSO MOSIMANE

Mosimane is currently on a short-term deal with Saudi Arabia’s Al Wahda and this opens the possibility of a return to Mzansi should Chiefs show urgency. Chiefs need a serial winner of note and Mosimane’s record speaks for itself. He has five PSL titles coupled with an impressive three CAF Champions League gold medals.

Mosimane’s work ethic and the ability to be in charge of the dressing room makes him a preferred candidate for the Chiefs managerial job.

    NASREDDINE NABI

Formerly in charge of Young Africans, Nabi has been seriously linked with the Chiefs job at the beginning of the current season. However, the two parties could not agree on terms and some contractual matters. It was mentioned in the media that Nabi wanted to bring his technical team but Chiefs didn’t agree.

Currently in charge of FAR Rabat in the Moroccan Botola Pro League, the Tunisian could still be a perfect option for the Soweto giants.

    BENNI MCCARTHY

Several Chiefs legends are calling for Benni’s name to be considered for the vacant coaching position. The only South African legend with a UEFA Champions League gold medal, it will not be easy for Chiefs to lure McCarthy from his dream job at his beloved Manchester United.

He is currently working as a striker’s coach under Dutch coach Erik ten Hag but a return home to an enticing Chiefs project is still a possibility.

The former Cape Town City and AmaZulu coach would potentially be available for Chiefs should the Red Devils cut ties with Ten Hag who is not enjoying the best of times at the club right now.

    MANQOBA MNGQITHI

Another South African candidate heavily linked with the job at Chiefs is none other than Mngqithi. The five-time PSL winner with Sundowns is said to be earmarked for the job by the Chiefs’ hierarchy. While his future has been a subject of speculation that he could leave Sundowns and based on his experience and tactical acumen, Mngqithi could change Chief’s fortunes.

However, his agent Mike Makaab made it clear his client is happy at Sundowns but that will depend on Amakhosi if they are prepared to break the bank for his services.

    ALEXANDRE GALLO

Gallo is also mentioned among potential candidates to replace Johnson and the Brazilian is also one of the most experienced. The 56-year-old began his coaching career in 2002 at Corinthians in Brazil where he served as an assistant coach under ex-Bafana Bafana mentor, Carlos Alberto Parreira.

A nomadic mentor of note, Gallo has been in charge of over 20 football clubs around the world including Japan’s FC Tokyo, Al Ain of UAE, and Al-Qadisiyah in Saudi Arabia. He has also served as the head coach of the Brazil under-23, under-20, under-17 and under-15 national teams.
