In a highly anticipated CAF Champions League second-round clash at Orlando Stadium on Friday, 23 August 2024, Orlando Pirates delivered a commanding performance, securing a comfortable 4-0 victory over the Madagascan side Disciples FC.

    Orlando Pirates First-Half Dominance

Pirates were already dominating from the first time the whistle blew and proved to be the team to be reckoned with for consistently applying pressure for an early goal. Nine minutes into the match, the Buccaneers gained an early advantage, courtesy of an unfortunate own goal by Andoniana Andrianavalanova. With momentum firmly on their side, they quickly capitalized, and it wasn’t long before they extended their lead. Relebohile Mofokeng slotted home after a slick one-two with Patrick Maswanganyi, doubling the score.

In the 29th minute, Maswanganyi took centre stage, unleashing a spectacular long-range strike that sailed into the top corner, making it 3-0. The Disciples FC struggled to find their footing, and by half-time, Orlando Pirates were in firm control with a comfortable lead.

    Second-Half Consolidation

The second half saw Pirates continue to dominate possession, limiting the Disciples to only a few attempts on goal. As the match approached full-time, substitute Karim Kimvuidi put the game beyond doubt with a late fourth goal, securing a commanding 4-0 victory. This comprehensive win ensured Pirates’ progression to the second preliminary round.
