It was a weekend of drama, goals, and shifting fortunes in the Betway Premiership, as the title race and relegation battle both took fascinating turns across several venues around South Africa.

    Sundowns Put On a Show

The headline act of the weekend was undoubtedly at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, where Mamelodi Sundowns delivered a jaw-dropping 7-4 demolition of Siwelele. It was a spectacle that had supporters rubbing their eyes in disbelief — eleven goals in a single top-flight fixture is the kind of scoreline that belongs in a schoolyard, not a professional league. Sundowns were ruthless in attack, clinical in front of goal, and largely in control despite the visitors managing four strikes of their own. For Siwelele, it was a bruising afternoon that will sting for some time, though their willingness to stay in the contest and keep fighting deserves acknowledgement. For Sundowns, it was yet another emphatic statement of intent as they continue to press their case at the top of the standings.

    Chiefs Silence Sekhukhune

While Sundowns were busy dismantling Siwelele, Kaizer Chiefs were making a statement of their own in Polokwane. A composed 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium gave Chiefs a confidence-boosting result that will lift the mood at Naturena considerably. Sekhukhune offered little going forward and were made to pay the price for their toothlessness. For a Chiefs side that has endured a turbulent campaign, this was precisely the kind of clean, professional performance their supporters have been craving. The win keeps them relevant in the upper half of the table and builds momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.

    Pirates Continue to Cruise

Also at Peter Mokaba Stadium — this time a day earlier — Orlando Pirates brushed aside Magesi FC 3-0 with barely breaking a sweat. The Buccaneers were composed and purposeful, doing enough to collect all three points without being overly stretched. Magesi, for their part, struggled to make any real impression and now find themselves looking nervously over their shoulders as the relegation conversation grows louder. Pirates, meanwhile, remain very much in the thick of the title conversation.

Draws Dominate the Rest of the Weekend

Elsewhere, the weekend was characterised by a series of stalemates that served different purposes depending on which side of the table each club finds themselves on.

    • Golden Arrows 0-0 Polokwane City — A frustrating afternoon in Durban for both sides. Arrows remain in danger, while Polokwane will feel they left something on the table.
    • Marumo Gallants 1-1 Richards Bay — A share of the spoils in Bloemfontein, with both clubs edging closer to safety without quite securing it convincingly.
    • Orbit College FC 0-0 AmaZulu FC — A goalless affair in Rustenburg that did little for either camp. Usuthu will be disappointed not to have picked up maximum points.
    • TS Galaxy 1-1 Chippa United — A scrappy draw in Nelspruit, with neither side able to find a winner when it mattered most.

With the season entering its most critical phase, every point now carries enormous weight — both for those chasing glory at the summit and those desperately trying to stay in the division. The Betway Premiership has rarely felt more compelling.
