Percy Tau, recently omitted from the Bafana Bafana squad, responded emphatically on the pitch by scoring two goals in Al Ahly’s 3-0 victory over Gor Mahia in the CAF Champions League on Sunday, 15 September 2024.

Percy Tau’s Message to the Coach

Tau’s performance was a clear message to Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, who had left the winger out of the national team for recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Broos had cited concerns about Tau’s situation at Al Ahly as the reason for his omission, indicating he is not mentally ready for the challenge, a decision that clearly motivated the player.

    Match-Winning Performance

In Sunday’s match, Tau opened his account just minutes after Rami Rabia had given Al Ahly the lead. He then completed his brace in the second half, sealing a comfortable win for the defending champions.

The brace not only underlined Tau’s importance to Al Ahly but also served as a reminder of his capabilities to the Bafana Bafana coaching staff. It remains to be seen whether Broos will reconsider his stance on Tau for future national team selections.

Al Ahly vs Gor Mahia: Looking Ahead

For now, Tau can bask in the glory of his match-winning performance and look forward to helping Al Ahly defend their CAF Champions League title. His display was a testament to his resilience and determination, proving that he is still a force to be reckoned with on the African football stage.
