    1. Siyabonga Nomvethe

    The undisputed king of goals, Nomvethe reigns supreme with a staggering 123 goals across various PSL clubs. His finishing prowess and elusive movement earned him a stint in Italy’s Serie A, solidifying his legendary status.


    2. Daniel Mudau

    A Mamelodi Sundowns icon, Mudau remains the club’s all-time top scorer with a phenomenal 110 goals. His clinical striking and unwavering loyalty to the Brazilians cemented his place in PSL folklore.


    3. Mabhuti Khenyeza

    Another 110-goal scorer, Khenyeza is fondly remembered for his flamboyant personality and knack for scoring breathtaking goals. His dazzling footwork and goal-scoring theatrics made him a true fan favourite.


    4. Shaun Bartlett

    Nicknamed “Shakes” for his powerful finishing, Bartlett was a prolific scorer for various PSL clubs before conquering the English Premier League. His return to South Africa saw him continue his dominance, leaving behind a legacy of goals and trophies.


    5. Lucas Radebe

    Lucas Radebe is a former professional footballer who played for Leeds United and Kaizer Chiefs. He is known for his exceptional leadership, toughness, and aerial ability on the field. Radebe won several league titles and individual awards, including the PSL Defender of the Season award in the 1995 – 1996 season.

    More than just a rock-solid defender, Radebe was a leader and an inspiration. His iconic captaincy with Leeds United in the English Premier League and his leadership with Bafana Bafana solidify his place as a South African footballing legend.


    6. Neil Tovey

    Tovey’s dazzling skills and playmaking abilities made him a maestro on the field. His vision, passing range, and ability to control the tempo of the game earned him the adoration of fans across the league.


    7. John “Shoes” Moshoeu

    A midfield general known for his dribbling skills and creativity, Moshoeu was a key figure in Orlando Pirates’ golden era. His influence on the South African game continues to inspire generations of young footballers.


    8. Benni McCarthy

    Bafana Bafana’s all-time leading goal scorer, Benni McCarthy also enjoyed a successful club career in Europe. His pace, power, and clinical finishing made him a nightmare for defenders both domestically and abroad.
 A retired South African striker, McCarthy is one of the country’s all-time leading goal-scorers. He played for several clubs in the PSL, including Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Cape Town Spurs, and he was known for his clinical finishing and goalscoring ability.

    McCarthy also had a successful career abroad, playing for clubs such as Porto, Celta Vigo, and Blackburn Rovers. He was a key member of the South African national team, and he represented the country in two World Cups.

    9. Teko Modise

    Often referred to as “The General,” Modise was a midfield maestro renowned for his passing, vision, and leadership. He orchestrated victories for both club and country, leaving a lasting impression on the PSL landscape.


    Teko Modise is a retired professional footballer who played for several teams, including Orlando Pirates, Supersport United, and Mamelodi Sundowns. He is known for his exceptional passing skills, vision, and creativity on the field.

    Modise won numerous awards throughout his career, including the PSL Player of the Season award in the 2007-2008 season and the Absa Premiership Midfielder of the Season award in the 2012-2013 season.

    10. Itumeleng Khune

    Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopping hero, Khune is one of the most decorated goalkeepers in PSL history. His agility, reflexes, and leadership have been instrumental in the Glamour Boys dominance in recent years.


    This list barely scratches the surface of the PSL’s rich history. However, these ten players have undoubtedly left their mark on the league, inspiring future generations and etching their names in South African footballing folklore.
