In today’s south Africa vs Congo display, South Africa delivered a performance for the ages, dismantling Congo 5-0 in a thrilling AFCON qualifier at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. The victory, fueled by a Teboho Mokoena masterclass and a rampant attacking display, puts Bafana Bafana in pole position to secure a spot in the prestigious tournament.

    South Africa vs Congo Recap

    Early Dominance Sets the Tone

From the first whistle, South Africa took control. The atmosphere was electric, with the home crowd roaring their support as Bafana Bafana launched a relentless assault on the Congo goal. The visitors simply couldn’t cope with the intensity and pressure.

    Mokoena’s Magic Moments

Teboho Mokoena was the star of the show, scoring two spectacular goals. His first, a clinical header from an Oswin Appolis corner, sent the stadium into raptures. He then doubled his tally with a thunderous strike from outside the box, leaving the Congo goalkeeper grasping at thin air.

    Goals Rain Down on Gqeberha

South Africa’s attacking prowess was on full display. Appolis, the orchestrator in midfield, delivered another pinpoint corner that was met by Bathusi Aubaas, who made no mistake from close range. Lyle Foster then joined the party, adding a fourth goal with a clinical finish after a brilliant assist from Elias Mokwana.

    Second Half Surge

Congo made a change at half-time, hoping to stem the tide. But South Africa refused to let up. Hugo Broos introduced fresh legs, with Relebohile Mofokeng replacing the influential Appolis, Iqraam Rayners coming on for the injured Foster, and Luke Le Roux taking over from Aubaas.

Rayners Puts the Icing on the Cake

Rayners made an immediate impact, capitalizing on a goalkeeping error to score South Africa’s fifth goal. Despite further substitutions, Congo were unable to find a way back into the match.

    A Statement Victory

The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes in Gqeberha as Bafana Bafana celebrated a famous victory. This emphatic win not only strengthens South Africa’s position in their AFCON qualifying group, but also sends a clear message to their rivals: Bafana Bafana are back, and they mean business.
