Manchester United’s struggles were painfully exposed in a crushing 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, September 1, 2024. The home side completely outclassed United, who failed to cope with Liverpool’s relentless attacking play. United’s defensive frailties were evident throughout, as they found themselves overwhelmed by the hosts.

The defeat leaves Manchester United floundering in the lower half of the Premier League standings, while Liverpool solidifies their place as title contenders.

    Tactical Decisions Haunt Ten Hag

Once again, Erik ten Hag’s tactical approach is under intense criticism following the defeat. The Dutch manager has struggled to bring out the best in his squad, and United’s performances have been consistently poor this season. His choice to deploy a high defensive line against Liverpool proved disastrous, allowing the Reds to exploit large gaps behind United’s backline.

With this being United’s third defeat in the new campaign, questions around his future are growing louder. Although the FA Cup triumph over Manchester City in May spared him from an earlier exit, last season’s eighth-place finish, the club’s lowest-ever in the Premier League, remains a sore point.

Pundit Jamie Carragher has weighed in, suggesting that Ten Hag might not survive the season. He anticipates Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United’s owner, will likely dismiss Ten Hag as early as October if results don’t improve.

    Frustration Grows Among Fans

Manchester United supporters are becoming increasingly disillusioned with the team’s performances. After losing three of their first five matches, the club now sits a daunting 10 points behind league leaders Manchester City. Fans are demanding immediate changes, as their patience with Ten Hag begins to wear thin. The pressure is mounting, and United’s season could unravel rapidly if no improvements are seen. For Ten Hag, time is running out—he must find a way to inspire his players and turn the tide before it’s too late.

    Bleak Outlook for United

This heavy defeat against Liverpool has raised significant concerns about Manchester United’s future. With Man United’s manager under immense pressure and fans losing faith, the club faces a critical juncture. If United doesn’t start producing results soon, they could find themselves in an unexpected relegation fight. The situation looks grim, and Ten Hag’s tenure as manager is now on a knife-edge.
