Kylian Mbappe, the French football superstar, has been unsuccessful in his attempt to force his former club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), to pay him a staggering £46.5 million (approximately R1 billion) in alleged unpaid wages and bonuses.
The dispute stems from Mbappe‘s contract renewal with PSG in 2022. According to reports, club sources claim that there was an understanding at the time, reiterated multiple times thereafter, that if Mbappe were to leave on a free transfer, he would waive certain financial benefits, such as bonuses, to compensate the club.

Mbappe, who officially joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in July 2024 after the expiry of his PSG contract, believes the club still owes him money. He took his case to the French league’s Commission Juridique, hoping to reclaim the alleged unpaid dues.
However, the commission ruled that Mbappe must enter mediation with his former club to reach a settlement, either with or without the assistance of an independent mediator. PSG has viewed this ruling as a victory.
