With great timing, just before Afcon 2024 starts, SAFA announced Bafana Bafana bonuses to motivate the players to push harder and win the competition.
This comes after the Afcon competition prize increase for this year by 40%, whereby the continental winner will get R130 million, while runners-up get R74-million, and the semifinalists/quarterfinalists will cash in on R46-million and R24-million respectively.
“We are happy that we could meet with the players, hear them out, and come to an agreement on the financial side,” said the SAFA CEO.
“Bafana Bafana will fare well in this edition of the AFCON and we are happy that this side of the game is now laid to rest.
“We have discussed and signed an agreement. We are now fully focused on the tournament, on doing well at the AFCON,” said Dr. Jordaan.
Should Bafana Bafana win the competition, the participating players will get R7 million in bonus incentives. While it’s not clear this will be per player, it’s a good motivation for the players to work harder this year.
“We want them to give us the kind of performance that will make the nation to take a deep breath and say ‘we have a team’. I think this AFCON is going to be one of the most competitive – it’s going to be challenging, but I think we have a team that can compete. They must focus and work hard and I am sure everything will go well with them,” concluded Jordaan.
Unfortunately, they’ll not get any bonuses if they don’t win the Afcon 2024 competition.
