This year’s Feather Awards are set to spotlight an exciting fusion of sports, culture, and inclusivity. With the theme “Borderless Existence,” the awards will once again celebrate the vibrant LGBTQIA+ community. Rulani Mokwena Shines in “Hunk of the Year” Category
Leading the sports-related nominations is South African-born football manager Rulani Mokwena, head coach of Wydad Athletic Club. Mokwena has been nominated for the coveted Hunk of the Year award. He finds himself in a tightly contested category alongside rugby legend Makazole Mapimpi and Olympic sprinter Akani Simbine, both of whom are also celebrated for their impressive athletic careers and personal influence.
The Sports Personality of the Year category features some of South Africa’s most accomplished athletes. Wheelchair tennis star Kgothatso Montjane, who continues to inspire with her achievements, is in the running, along with the mighty Springboks, South Africa’s national rugby team, who are celebrated for their recent successes. Sprinter Alyssa Conley, known for her speed on the track, rounds off this competitive category.
Gayton McKenzie Recognized as Diva Extraordinaire
Additionally, Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture Gayton McKenzie has been nominated in the Diva Extraordinaire of the Year category. Known for his bold personality and dedication to the betterment of South African sports, McKenzie’s nomination highlights his contribution to driving change and progress in the sporting world.

According to Feather Awards co-founder Thami Kotlolo, this year’s event aims to emphasize inclusivity and the idea of breaking down barriers, while also creating spaces that encourage growth and acceptance for all individuals, regardless of who they are or where they come from.
