The latest FIFA rankings show Africa’s national teams continuing their climb on the world stage. Senegal, the recent Africa Cup of Nations champions, holds strong at second in Africa and 17th globally, while Morocco maintains its continental dominance at the top spot, ranking 12th in the world.

Nigeria has made significant strides, breaking into the top three in Africa at position 28th worldwide. This comes after their impressive run at the AFCON. The traditional powerhouses of Egypt sit at 4 in Africa and 36 globally, ahead of Cote d’Ivoire’s 5th in Africa, rounding out the top five.

Further down the rankings, there’s a tight battle for positions. Teams like Tunisia, Algeria, and Cameroon are all hovering around the top 10 in Africa, showcasing the continent’s growing depth in football talent. Even South Africa, at 10th in Africa and 58th globally, demonstrates Africa’s improving competitive edge.

The current qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup offer an exciting glimpse into how these top-ranked African teams are performing. Here’s a quick recap:

    • Morocco: Currently leading their group, continuing their dominant form.
    • Senegal: Bounced back to top position after a slow start and their recent AFCON performance suggests they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
    • Nigeria: Faces a crucial and nerve-wracking challenge after their devastating 2-1 loss against Benin. This loss could make it even harder for them to qualify.
