The first weekend games of the MTN 8 quarter-final are done and dusted, as today’s second match ends by Stellenbosch beating TS Galaxy in Cape Town.
Orlando Pirates were first to go through and book their MTN 8 2024 semi-finals spot, after beating SuperSport United (SSU) 3-1 in extra time.
SSU didn’t make the game easy for Pirates, but as the defending champions winning MTN for the past consecutive two (2) seasons, the Buccaneers just seem to know how to propel in this competition.
As for SSU, they last qualified for the MTN 8 semi-finals in 2022. They faced Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals that year. In their quarter-final match in 2023, SuperSport United was eliminated by Stellenbosch FC, who secured their place in the semi-finals with a 1-0 victory in extra time.
Stellenbosch become the second club to book their sport for the next round by comfortably defeating TS Galaxy by the same score as Pirates, 3 to 1.
Cape Town City joined last week’s winners into the semi-finals spot today after defeating Sekhukhune United 1-nil away from home.
