    Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs passes away after he was gunned down on Wednesday in a botched robbery in Gauteng.

    Various media outlets suggest that the Cape Town-born central defender, Fleurs was shot in Florida during a robbery that went wrong.

    Fleurs was shot and killed in a botched hijacking or robbery incident on Wednesday and the news was confirmed by a source close to Kaizer Chiefs.

    TimesLIVE reports that Gauteng police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo said late on Wednesday night he had not received any official report on the incident yet.

    LUKE FLEURS: CHIEFS DEFENDER DIES FROM HORRIBLE HIJACKING

    The daily publication has it that Chiefs corporate communications manager Vina Maphosa said the club could not comment on the matter yet.

    “Fleurs, 24, joined Chiefs as a free agent in October having been released by previous club SuperSport United in September,” reports TimesLIVE.

    “Fleurs played 70 times for SuperSport, who he joined from first division Ubuntu FC in 2018. The centreback was yet to earn game time at Chiefs.”

    FLEURS: FAMILY MEMBER CONFIRMS THE CHIEFS DEFENDER’S PASSING

    According to a football publication, iDiski Times reports that the 24-year-old joined Chiefs in October after leaving SuperSport and despite not making his debut yet, was still considered one of the brightest defensive prospects in South African football.

    “A family member confirmed to iDiski Times on Wednesday evening that the former Ubuntu Academy development product passed on today after being shot during a hijacking,” reports the publication.
