Saturday the 16th of May promises to be a blockbuster afternoon of Betway Premiership football, with seven simultaneous fixtures kicking off at 15:00 across the country. From the coastal heat of Durban to the high altitude of Polokwane, there is plenty at stake as the season draws closer to its conclusion. Here is your guide to everything you need to watch out for.

The Big One: AmaZulu vs Kaizer Chiefs

All roads lead to Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, where AmaZulu FC host Kaizer Chiefs in what is arguably the most anticipated match of the weekend. Usuthu have been a difficult side to break down on home soil this season, and they will be desperate to put on a show in front of their passionate supporters. Chiefs, meanwhile, carry the weight of a massive fanbase demanding results, and any slip-up in a fixture of this profile would only intensify the pressure on the Naturena camp. The midfield battle will be central – whichever side controls the tempo in the engine room will likely dictate the outcome of this one.

Pirates Looking to Dominate at Home

Over in Soweto, Orlando Pirates welcome Durban City to Orlando Stadium in what should be a comfortable evening’s work on paper for the Buccaneers – though football has a habit of humbling the overconfident. Pirates have shown real quality in patches this term, and with the crowd behind them, expect Jose Riveiro’s men to press for an early goal and control proceedings from the front. Durban City will need to stay organised and hit on the counter if they are to cause an upset.

    Cape Winelands Clash

At the picturesque Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, the home side face Orbit College FC in a fixture that offers Stellenbosch FC a chance to cement their standing as one of the more progressive outfits in the division. Orbit College have shown fighting spirit in their debut top-flight campaign, and they will not simply roll over, but Stellenbosch’s technical quality and familiarity with their home conditions should give them the edge.

Survival Stakes in the Midlands and Limpopo

Richards Bay Stadium hosts a nervy encounter between Richards Bay and Sekhukhune United – a match with potential relegation implications for both sides. Expect a tense, physical contest where neither team can afford a misstep. Similarly, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane City take on Marumo Gallants in a Limpopo derby that carries enormous local pride alongside crucial league points. These provincial rivalries often produce unpredictable results regardless of league position.

Bloemfontein and Gqeberha Round Out the Card

At Dr Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, Siwelele host Magesi FC in a match between two sides looking to finish the campaign on a high note. Over in Gqeberha, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium provides the backdrop for Chippa United versus Golden Arrows, a fixture with a history of producing entertainment. Both sides carry a sense of unpredictability that makes this one worth following on the ticker.

Set your alarms, find your couch, and settle in. Saturday the 16th is a full slate of South African top-flight football – and it all kicks off at 15:00.
