Amid their struggles and failure to win trophies, Kaizer Chiefs star Siyethemba Sithebe responds to calls for a sangoma to intervene. The former AmaZulu midfielder says everyone has his or her own beliefs but he doesn’t think Chiefs needs a traditional healer. Amakhosi are set to finish their ninth season without a trophy and Sithebe suggests they will perform any ritual the club believes in.
Amakhosi have suffered three back-to-back defeats in the DStv Premiership and sit at number 10 on the DStv Premiership log table. Under coach Cavin Johnson’s tutelage, the Naturena-based giants are under pressure to revive their status and return to CAF interclub football.

Sithebe on Calls for a Sangoma to Help Chiefs
The dreadlocked star was responding to a fan whose call went viral on social media, suggesting that Chiefs that the club’s problems are beyond the squad and management. This also came on the back of a 1-0 defeat against Richards Bay last weekend and Chiefs are also on the verge of finishing beyond the top eight. While Sithebe noted and showed respect for the opinion, he distanced himself from it being a viable solution.
“Regarding that [issue of ancestors and rituals], everyone has their own beliefs, and obviously if the culture here at the club, they perform ancestral rituals, then as a player, those are things I cannot get involved in,” Sithebe said.
“Him as a supporter [that said those things] if that’s how he sees things that Chiefs need to go in that direction, I don’t know why he thinks that way, but we as players will focus on what is being done here at Kaizer Chiefs, the club.”
Remaining with Amakhosi, word doing the rounds is that the club will not exercise an option to retain striker Jasond Gonzalez on a permanent deal.
Chiefs to Release Misfiring Striker

According to a football publication, the Glamour Boys will let go of Gonzalez and will not renew his contract to make his loan move permanent. The 24-year-old hitman joined Chiefs at the beginning of the season after scoring eight goals in 20 games for Santa Cruz and emerged as one of the leading performers in the Bolivian league.
“This publication has learnt, that the physical striker will return to Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz at the end of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season,” reports iDiski Times.
“His loan deal, which had an option to make the deal permanent for $180,000 (R3.4 million) will not be pursued further after failing to score in his 12 games for Amakhosi. The Glamour Boys have scored only 19 goals in 23 league games this season, with Ranga Chivaviro, Christian Saile, and Ashley Du Preez netting eight goals between them. Pule Mmodi with four goals is their leading scorer in the division, while Edson Castillo also netted three.”
What’s Next for Chiefs:
Johnson and his troops will focus on their tough encounter at home against SuperSport United in a league clash scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
