Kaizer Chiefs were shambolic as they suffered yet another defeat to Richards Bay in the DStv Premiership on Sunday afternoon. Amakhosi headed to the league encounter on the back of a 2-0 loss to Chippa United but they failed to crack and get a victory at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi.
The shambolic Soweto giants are seriously struggling as they suffered their third successive DStv Premiership defeat against a relegation-threatened side, they severely endangered their chances of finishing in the top eight.
Chiefs Review: Richards Bay Add Woes to Struggling Giants
The hosts netted through skipper Simphiwe Mcineka in the 64th minute to sink Chiefs, who went to their fifth match without a win, four of those losses. The defeat also elbowed Amakhosi from eighth to 10th.

The win saw second-last-placed Bay move to 20 points, six behind third-last Moroka Swallows, boosting the KwaZulu-Natal team’s chances of escaping relegation. They are eight points above last-placed Cape Town Spurs in last place.
Amakhosi were the better team in the first half but indecisiveness proved their undoing in the final third. The first real chance of the game fell to Mduduzi Shabalala in the 16th minute as he was one-versus-one with Bay goalkeeper Salim Magoola. The Ugandan international smartly used his leg to thwart Shabalala’s effort.
The second half was also the same as the first, with the visitors taking the game to the hosts. However, against the run of play, the Natal Rich Boyz earned a corner, splendidly delivered by Sanele Barns, to take the lead via Mcineka, who rose the highest to nod home.
Chiefs Coach on the Loss to Richards Bay
In the wake of the defeat in front of a packed King Zwelithini, Cavin Johnson lambasted their display, saying Chiefs looked ordinary. “I don’t think it’s the players, it’s all of us, Johnson,” responded to SuperSport.

“We have to take responsibility. I have to do something else. It starts with me. We have to do something else to make sure that they are in the right space, in the right mind. And you look at what you do during the training, and that give them a bonus to play these games. And when you see the amount, like you say 14 shots at goal, guys, come on, we have to put two away.”
“I think this is probably the third team we play that the goalkeeper is Man of the Match. So we’ve got to look at that as well and tell ourselves it’s not possible for the goalkeeper to be Man of the Match against us. So we’ve got to pull up our socks. We’ve got to start again and it starts with me and the players will follow.”
What’s Next for Chiefs?
Looking at their next match, the Glamour Boys will now look to secure the full three points when they face SuperSport United on the 27th of April. On the other hand, the KZN Rich Boyz will face fellow relegation candidates Cape Town Spurs on Friday night.
