Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has outlined his intentions to bolster the team’s offensive lineup during the upcoming January transfer window. Despite the team’s decent goal tally of six from their first three games this season, Nabi believes the squad has not fully capitalized on the numerous chances created on the pitch.

The club’s seven new signings have primarily focused on strengthening the defensive side of the team, leaving the attack somewhat under-resourced. Nabi is now turning his attention toward scouting attacking talent that could enhance their goal-scoring potential.

“At the moment, we’re in October and have a few months before the January window opens. During this time, I need to scout the right quality players,” Nabi said.

    Nasreddine Nabi: Targeting Key Positions

Top African clubs often recruit from teams participating in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup group stages or seek talent from beyond the continent. However, Nabi acknowledges the challenges in finding top-tier strikers within the African market. Currently, Chiefs rely on forwards like Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley du Preez, and Christian Saile, who haven’t consistently delivered the desired striker rate.

“My strikers did score today and in the last match, but the African market is quite limited. There are only a few quality players, and the big clubs like Esperance, Al Ahly, and Zamalek are quick to snap them up,” Nabi explained.

    Time to Scout

With only seven more Betway Premiership matches to go before the transfer window opens, and the Carling Knockout tournament on the horizon, Nabi feels there is enough time to identify potential new recruits. However, he remains cautious about spending wisely and not overusing the club’s budget.

“I’m grateful to the owners and the committee for giving me the budget to work with, but I don’t want to spend it carelessly during the window,” he added.

As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on how Nabi strengthens the Chiefs’ attacking force and whether new signings will help the team convert more of their scoring opportunities into victories.
