Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the passing of defender Luke Fleurs who was shot on Wednesday night in Johannesburg. The Soweto giants, Amakhosi are mourning the passing of Fleurs whose life was cut short by car hijackers and the club dispatched a statement on Thursday morning.
As also reported by SportPlus, Fleurs lost his life and Chiefs say the South African Police are probing the matter and are still searching for the culprits.
Amakhosi Issue a Statement on Defender’s Passing
In a brief media statement on social media channels, Chiefs said it is with a great deal of sadness to lose a young defender.
“It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce that Kaizer Chiefs player, Luke Fleurs tragically lost his life last night during a hijacking incident in Johannesburg,” reads a statement from Chiefs.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time. The SAPS are handling the matter and further details will be communicated in due course. May his dear soul rest in peace.”
Kaizer Chiefs Defender: SuperSport Sends Condolences
As a former SuperSport United player, Fleurs moved to Chiefs in September last year and he was yet to make his debut for the Glamour Boys. Fleurs, 24, joined Chiefs as a free agent having been released by his previous club, Amatsatsantsa A Pitori as he was signed under ex-coach Molefi Ntseki.
He played 70 times for SuperSport, who he joined from first division Ubuntu FC in 2018. The centre-back was yet to earn game time at Chiefs.

Meanwhile, this publication posted that Gauteng police spokesperson Lt-Col Mavela Masondo told Sunday World they are still waiting for the developments on the breaking news story.
“The police are waiting for information on the incident for now,” Masondo told Sunday World.
“We will comment further on the matter as soon as we gather the details thereof…”
