Marumo Gallants secured a massive 2-0 victory over Orlando Pirates in a Betway Premiership clash at the Free State Stadium. Despite Pirates dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Gallants made their opportunities count and punished their visitors.

    Gabadinho Mhango Strikes First

The match got off to a lively start, with Orlando Pirates showing early attacking intent. However, it was Marumo Gallants who struck first in the 15th minute through former Pirates forward Gabadinho Mhango. The Malawian striker capitalised on a loose ball in the box, slotting home to give his side the lead against his former club.

Pirates responded by pushing forward, but their finishing let them down. They had several clear chances, including a massive opportunity for Tshegofatso Mabasa just before halftime, but he failed to convert.

Chaine’s Heroics Keep Pirates in the Game

Pirates’ shot-stopper Sipho Chaine had to be at his best in the second half, making a crucial save against Daniel Msendami in a one-on-one situation. His quick reflexes kept Pirates in the match, but their inability to convert their dominance into goals proved costly.

Own Goal Seals Orlando Pirates’ Fate

As Pirates continued to press for an equaliser, they were hit on the counter in the 75th minute. In an unfortunate turn of events, Thalente Mbatha deflected the ball into his own net, doubling Gallants’ lead and effectively sealing the match.

Pirates Left to Rue Missed Chances

Despite throwing everything forward in the closing stages, Pirates failed to find a breakthrough. Gallants defended resolutely and managed the game well, frustrating their opponents. The result marked a crucial three points for the hosts, while Pirates were left wondering how they failed to find the back of the net despite creating multiple chances.

    Final Thoughts

This win will be a huge morale boost for Marumo Gallants as they climb the table, while Orlando Pirates will have to regroup and address their inefficiencies in front of goal. The Buccaneers had six clear chances but lacked the finishing touch, a concern they must address going forward.

Final Score: Marumo Gallants 2-0 Orlando Pirates
