Saturday 23 May serves up a full slate of Betway Premiership action, with seven fixtures all kicking off simultaneously at 15:00 across the country. From the streets of Durban to the highlands of Limpopo, there is plenty at stake as the season draws toward its conclusion. Here is what to watch out for.

The Durban Derby That Matters Most

The standout fixture of the day has to be Kaizer Chiefs vs Chippa United at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Chiefs have been searching for consistency all season, and with the pressure of expectation never far away in Naturena, head coach Nasreddine Nabi will demand nothing less than three points against a Chippa side that has made a habit of frustrating the bigger clubs. The atmosphere inside Moses Mabhida is always electric when Amakhosi are in town, and supporters will be hoping their side can put together a performance that justifies the belief still held in this project.

Just across the city, Durban City host AmaZulu FC at Chatsworth Stadium in what promises to be a fiercely contested local rivalry. Usuthu have been going through a difficult period and will desperately want to rediscover the form that once made them genuine title contenders. For Durban City, this is an opportunity to prove they belong at this level. Expect passion, physicality and a crowd that will make Chatsworth feel like a cauldron.

Arrows Look to Fly at Home

Golden Arrows vs TS Galaxy at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium rounds off a remarkable concentration of top-flight football in Durban on the same afternoon. Arrows are always a difficult team to break down on home soil, and Galaxy will need to be sharp from the first whistle if they are to take anything from KwaZulu-Natal. This is the kind of mid-table contest that often produces unexpected drama.

    Pirates Head to Mpumalanga

One of the most intriguing matchups sees Orbit College FC host Orlando Pirates at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. The Buccaneers arrive as firm favourites, but Pirates have learned the hard way this season that no game is a formality. Orbit College will set up to be compact and dangerous on the counter, and for the neutral, this fixture offers the romance of a smaller club dreaming big against one of the country’s giants. José Riveiro’s men will need focus and discipline to avoid any upset.

    Limpopo Double-Header

Up in Limpopo, two matches unfold in Polokwane. Magesi FC take on Richards Bay at Seshego Stadium, with both sides needing points for different reasons – Magesi keen to build on their impressive debut top-flight campaign, Richards Bay fighting to stay relevant. Across town at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Sekhukhune United face Siwelele in a contest that carries real urgency for both clubs. Babina Noko will want to use home advantage to push for a strong finish.

    Gallants Host Stellenbosch

In Bloemfontein, Marumo Gallants welcome Stellenbosch FC to Dr Molemela Stadium. Stellenbosch have been one of the more progressive sides in the division over recent seasons, and a trip to the Free State is never straightforward. Gallants will look to make the most of familiar surroundings.

It is a Saturday that truly serves the South African football faithful. Catch all seven fixtures live from 15:00 and follow all the action here on sportplus.co.za.
